Alph is a process calculator for the iPhone and iPod Touch based on the world class thermodynamic and physical properties calculations of VMGThermo, which is the Virtual Materials Group package that powers their comprehensive process simulator VMGSim.
Two and three phase flash calculations are supported, along with two phase envelopes and hydrate temperature and pressure prediction, with or without inhibitors. Alph also has a simple formula system, which allows fluids to be defined in terms of one another, allowing for surprisingly sophisticated calculations. See the web page tutorial where a dew point control gas plant, including refrigeration and stabilizer is calculated.
Alph comes standard with VMG's Advanced Peng-Robinson for Natural Gas package and ten light hydrocarbons (C1-C10). A package of additional compounds important to gas processing can be purchased in an a store right in Alph.
An option to add custom hydrocarbon compounds, such as heavier fractions can also be purchased in the application, as can a rigorous distillation tower tool and a steam table property package. See the Alph web site for details.

HOW TO GET GOOD RECOGNITION RESULTS
1. Put business card on a flat surface.
2. Good lighting is a key factor: at least a bright desk lamp or direct sunlight on a sunny day is necessary.
3. On iPhone 3GS make sure the camera is focused on the business card. On older models you should use 3rd party additional lenses to get good results.
4. Hold the iPhone right above the card. Keep the card aligned with viewfinder edges and adjust iPhone positioning so that the card fits the screen size.
5. Hold the iPhone firmly and take the picture.
6. After recognition is done, it's a good idea to check the result, since no OCR software yet can guarantee 100% result.
In next version we will add business card holder to save the original photos of business cards along with the contact details.
COMPATIBILITY NOTES
- No special equipment is required for using the app on iPhone 3GS since its camera allows to take photo of good enough quality.
- If you are using iPhone 2G or 3G, you may need additional gadgets to improve photo quality, such as Griffin Clarifi.

Track your time by clocking in and out at the present time, by picking a time for clocking in and out (in the past or the future), or from the job details screen by manually entering new time worked entries. See a running timer for each job you are clocked into, including how much money you are earning. Make notes on time worked entries to remind you what you did during that time. Clock in and out as many times as you want per day and HoursTracker will do the math for you.
Track your earnings by entering an hourly rate for each job and then optionally changing it for any block of time worked. The review hours screen will show you time worked and money earned by calendar day, week or month.
Track your pay on the Money tab by entering pay period information about your jobs and letting HoursTracker total up your hours by pay period. HoursTracker will show you list of upcoming paychecks from each job and how much to expect given the hours tracked so far. Estimate your net pay by entering a withholding percentage and even a flat-rate deduction to apply once when the pay period ends.
Export your hours and earnings via e-mail either as a friendly summary or a computer-friendly CSV data format. You choose which format you want in the e-mail body and/or an attachment. Touching a job brings up a menu with options for clocking in or out and cleaning up old data by date. HoursTracker will keep track of time worked and money made while Clocked In, even while you use other applications, talk on the phone, even turn your phone off.
Information about jobs (e.g. the name, the hourly rate, time worked) can be edited at any time by touching the arrow next to the job name. You can also delete or edit time worked (change the start/end times, the effective hourly rate, or add a comment) and add time worked in the past or even in the future.
